Yoga Aspirations workshops explore yoga theory and practices. They are designed for the particular interests of the groups for whom they are conducted.

Workshops Conducted

February 2019: Enriching Your Yoga Practice through Pranayama and Meditation

This two and a half hour workshop included a discussion of Pranayama (breathing techniques) and introduced some basic pranayama practices, including Dirgha (three part yogic breath), Ujjayi (victorious or ocean-sounding breath) and Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing). Meditation practices included a walking meditation, a sitting meditation and a final relaxation practice.

October 2018: Mandalas and Meditation Workshop

In this four hour workshop in a tranquil setting in South Townsville, participants learnt about Mandalas, produced their own Mandala, and then used it for meditation.

February to April 2017: Different Aspects of Yoga

Four 90 minute sessions at Marymount Mercy Centre, Sydney, designed and facilitated for priests and religious sisters undertaking a course for spiritual renewal and relaxation. The sessions included an introduction to yoga, asana and pranayama practices, walking meditation and Yoga Nidra relaxation practice.

April 2016 and October 2015: Different Aspects of Yoga

Four half day workshops at Marymount Mercy Centre, Sydney, designed and facilitated for priests, religious and lay people undertaking a course for spiritual renewal and relaxation. The workshops included an introduction to yoga, asana and pranayama practices, an overview of different branches of yoga, an introduction to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, themes from the Bhagavad Gita, walking meditation and a Yoga Nidra relaxation practice.

January 2016: Wellbeing and Self Care Workshops

Four half day workshops for NGO workers supporting women and children survivors of violence. The workers came from various organisations supported by The Asia Foundation in Timor-Leste. Topics covered included brainstorming on what is wellbeing, yoga sessions with stretching and breathing techniques, walking meditations, Yoga Nidra deep relaxation, recognising sources of stress in jobs and the workplace, sharing useful resources that workers already use to prevent, manage and reduce stress, presentation and discussion of case studies, and developing a personal stress management plan.

November 2014: Yoga Aspirations Tools for Meditation

Half day workshop in Mundingburra, Townsville.

September 2013: Introduction to the Koshas and Prana Vayus

Half day workshop at Townsville South State School, Townsville.

May 2013: Introduction to Chanting

Evening session at Townsville South State School, Townsville.

March 2013: Pawanmuktasana Series

Three one hour workshops over three consecutive weeks at Townsville South State School, Townsville, covering the three groups of practices from the pawanmuktasana series.
